The Reality Vortex: The Black Rose

Brachi grunted at this, and taking note of the rocks growing on her arm. Angered by this, she increased her strength by going Super Saiyan and charging at Battler.

"You're NOT going to pull a Dabura on me!" She snarled, clobbering him with the rocks, wanting to shatter the rocks in order to free up her arm, while Bara also charged in, steam bellowing from the holes on her body upon spotting what Battler did to her bestie, with the amalgamate and the Majin attacking in tandem together, while Dielec was ready to face Alex.

He needs the girl to fight a fake Kassava? Bernkastel didn't see the Overseer on the field, but she could easily picture Guardian scrutinizing her every move, probably asking herself what cheap tricks the witch will trip on now.

Bern steeled herself for the remaining Fragment shards heading in their direction, sinking herself into Clear Mind. In this silent world these were no more than just the usual she could wield herself. For a certain pink Witch, this would be child's play. Placing a hand on her hip, Bern focused on using Clear Mind to conjure a tiny, shimmering silhouette of a white star between two fingers before flicking it towards the center where the majority of the shards were hovering. She got in front of Zenta, grabbing the tips of his ears and pulling them down to somewhat drown out what was to come.

"Boom."

On command, the tiny candy glowed blindingly bright, flooding her field with white.
Then exploding into a fireworks barrage of countless pieces to pummel the fragments.

Victor asks the brakers in general as he jumping on his flying carpet "What is it with your group and ending up fighting most everyone you meet?" Victor thinks "really I think we have bigger fish than one's reality grudges or fears."

Victor summons scarecrows in order to take fatal hits for his allies.

“Blue Objective.”

Briefly, there was a flash of blue light that engulfed the detective just before Brachi and Bara began their combination attacks. Their attacks connected, but the blows became so softened that they were insignificant to do actual damage.

The detective grabbed Brachi’s arm and Bara’s face. “I will say, the Witch forewarn you about my abilities. I can overwrite anything to my vision—my objective reality. Yet, you foolishly came to me without a clear plan. Typical for your group—”

His eyes darted to the sounds of his fragments exploding before vanishing into nothingness as the explosion waned. Even the rocks on eroded Brachi’s arm disappeared. “What did she do?” Battler did not see the Witch moved or chant. In his journey against the Witches, he never encountered something like this before. This was not magic or anything else; he would have detected it right away.

“Alex.”

Alex turned to Battler slightly. “Yes.”

“This Bernkastel display a brand-new ability I never seen before. I am sure I can take her, but I do not want to take any chances against something I’m not aware of. Cut off her head.”

The young woman unsheathed her blade once more as crimson colored aura billowed around it. Her eyes glowing as it reveals a clock-like pupils. “Ready.”

Battler turned to Brachi. “Red Objective!” He jabbed his finger in Brachi’s chest. The sudden pulse fell across her body—her fusion had become completely undone, splitting her apart. “Red Objective!” He squeezes his hand, digging his fingers into Bara’s skin on her face. He pulled it back, stretching it before releasing, flinging her back to Dielec.

He slammed his hands against the ground as he uttered Red Objective once again. Following this, the earth beneath them creates a rising plateau that carries Bernkastel above the rest to isolate her—especially Zenta.

“Demonic Speed!” Alex shouted. She sprinted across the terrain as she rapidly climbed the foundation to reach the Witch of Miracles. As she moved, red streak marks she left behind her flourished like flames. It acts as a buffer to prevent others from giving chase. Once she approached the Witch, her eyes became noticeably brighter. “Time Delay: Lvl 5!” From the perspective of others, it looked like Alex seemingly moved faster while the Witch’s movement slowed to an absolute crawl. Her blade was right at the edge of her neck, ready to slice it off.

Outside Federation City

Vegetto's eyes widened as his fist collided into the pillar of light; bullets slamming into his abdomen shortly after and illiciting a pained cry from the Potara fusion. He somersaulted backwards from the devastating impact, but as he slid to a halt behind the group, he blinked in confusion and stared down at his abdomen. No bullet holes or damage was left on his fist; despite the intense stabbing impact of each blow from Alex.

In addition to the strange phenomenon, Vegetto glanced to the side and saw Cayde standing perfectly normal amongst the team. The android clearly remembered being tossed around like a ragdoll by Spina; even made quips during the aggressive strategy to disorient and get in close to Alex. Yet for some reason, Cayde never found his way to the side or even needed to recover from the strange offensive strategy by Spina; he simply stood back in his original place as if nothing had happened.

Tiresome, a constant cycle of the same back and forth seen for years.

How about a step further?

Let's just do away with these little birds. They weren't going to protect anything anyway.

The strong scarecrows defensively flying around each of the Breakers suddenly vanished next. No force of nature removing them; just simply vanishing away.

Victor, was it?

No more sweeping generalizations.

No more boring, unimaginative answers to every problem.

The raised plateau floating high in the air began to emit a bright light; only visible to Victor.

Be a dear, and blow this up, won't you?

Be direct

Be proactive

Federation City

Vegetto Black stared back at the clerk with a small purse of his lips, thinking to himself momentarily. He trailed his eyes over to Yowl Kassava and Sinister Bernkastel picking out unique dresses for a brief moment, speaking outloud but just out of ear shot of the two.

"Yes...there's much I don't know about this creature. But perhaps...I should do more research. And test how loyal she is to me."

His smirk rose, his eyes landing back on the clerk while he raised his voice to call to Yowl Kassava and Sinister Bernkastel.

"Oh honey?! Could you two come over here?!"

Vegetto Black waited patiently for the inevitable arrival of Yowl Kassava and Sinister Bernkastel at the counter, continuing on once the pair joined him. The doppelganger glanced down, gesturing to the button on the counter while keeping his eyes trained on the clerk.

"I was just having a conversation with this young clerk here...and he said some...concerning things."

Vegetto Black pointed his right arm forward, his fingers completely outstretched and aimed directly at the clerk; the Spirit Sword pose. Vegetto Black kept his confident smirk, the man's cocky attitude unwavering as he spoke.

"Tell her everything you told me...and everything I just said about her. This is your chance to save yourself; see if you can turn my loving, beautiful wife against me."

Victor says as he summons a rabbit with a gun "At this point I think they are more they don't really have the time to plan, or any plans just go tits up any way. I should note that I somehow ended up as someone that just joined and i noticed this." Victor thinks "there is a third that I wound say. Something tells me that do random shit, and luck will make it work out. I wonder if I will get one those odd "stan" things After this bizarre adventure?"

The rabbit jumps down and starts shooting the detective.

“Be your eyes? I do like the sound of that.” Zenta purred. “Allow me to be of some use to you, Lady Bernkastel.”

The sound of the explosions instantly stirred something within Zenta, priming him for the battle that was to come. His fur began to bristle as he felt Bernkastel pull his ears down. As Alex separated him from Bernkastel, the fox only cackled while debris fell from the lifted plateau. He bent his knees and instantly jumped, leaving behind a massive crater in his wake and a wicked smile as he rushed directly towards Alex.

As the blade grew closer to Bernkastel, it instantly stopped, caught in Zenta’s hand. An arm wrapped around Bernkastel protectively, pulling her away from further danger as he hoisted her up on his back, securing her with his twin tails.

“No, no… your fight is with me, little Morningstar.” Zenta said, baring his canines and crushing the blade in his hand. “Show me the strength an offspring of the Morningstar can showcase. Do not disappoint me!”

Faster than Alex could blink, she felt her head snap upwards thanks to a kick right on her chin, flinging her head back. Zenta smirked while he kept Bernkastel protected on his back, awaiting her next command.

“Are we close yet – oof!” Asher paused, his face bumping onto an invisible barrier. “Guess that answers my question.”

“Ah, the barrier!” Jaz exclaimed. “Look, look. See the lab?”

On the other side of the barrier, there were computers, old and dusty, but still very much in workable condition. Lights blinked softly, tables layered thin with dust, and papers scattered about in a rush. One thing stood out specifically, a hologram flickering softly, a low hum from the massive amount of advanced technology within it.

The hologram had an odd tree suspended in it, its leaves odd shapes. Upon closer inspection, the leaves were entirely made of Vortex Voins, millions of them.

“C’mon!” Jaz said, easily slipping through the barrier due to being made of Doom Technology. However, when Asher and Avalon tried, they only bumped their faces on the invisible barrier.

“Hey Jaz, we can’t get through. How come you can?” Asher said, tapping the barrier.

“I’m made from Doom’s technology! I can cut through the barrier to get you guys inside, but you have to be quick.” Jaz said. A tiny arm came out from the smart phone and pressed against the barrier, lighting it and sparking it up as if welding. It began to slowly cut through the barrier. “Hang on Ashy, I’ll get you through.”

Outside Federation City

Alex tumbled back until she reached the edge of the mounted cliff. She lay stunned briefly; the pain in her chin spread throughout her entire body once the adrenaline cools off. “Damn...” She struggled for a good moment before finally standing up on her feet. “That demon definitely knows.” Alex thought to herself, before hacking up blood. “Bastard nearly shattered my teeth…”

Her demeanor changed when the beast called her out as a Morningstar. “Alright, you got my attention, demon. You seem to be very acquainted with mother. What is your relationship with Lucifer?!” Since her blade had been shattered and made unusable, she pulled the gun out of her holster and pointed at the beast. “I’ll take out the witch and drag you to headquarters to get any information about mother.”

Alex made a move despite her obvious injury. Her eyes changed to clock pupils as she fired her gun. “Demonic Bullet! Time Skip!” The bullet hurled straight for the witch as it kept vanishing throughout its travels. It was skipping ahead in time within a fraction of a second until it reached within mere inches from Bernkastel’s right eye.

“She’s losing focus.” Battler saw from afar. “Zenta’s provocation is working.” Although he’s not sure if he’s doing it in jest or there are some lingering feelings underneath for someone like Lucifer of all things. Regardless, the Detective did not want to risk prolonging the battle any longer because it would jeopardize their original mission if multiple people discovered a flaw in Alex’s ability.

Another issue had the detective on the fence now. Cadye, despite being rag dolled earlier, was standing next to the Potaran in perfect condition. Vegetto’s injuries practically disappeared. And Victor’s scarecrows seemingly vanished into nothingness. Was this another trick from Bernkastel’s new ability? That was his first thought. But he noticed that Whis hadn’t appeared yet, but he had no record of displaying such abilities before.

“Need to ramp this up.” He deduced. “I cannot allow neither Vegetto nor Bernkastel to come any close to this.”

His ears picked up sounds of bullets firing towards his direction. Acting fast, he pointed at himself. “Blue Objective!” The bullets from Victor’s Rabbit slammed onto the detective’s body and simply bounced off. “Nice try, old man.” He pointed at the rabbit. “Red Objective!”

The rabbit rapidly transformed into a gigantic, raging beast and turned on Victor. Without warning, he threw multiple strikes at the old man without slowing down.

Some Distant Away

Far away, Spina was facedown on the ground. He wasn’t seriously hurt, but he simply lay there as he thought about his next move. “She has the same ability as Kassava.” It was clear that in this new reality vortex, time abilities work more functional—although time travel from past and future is still impossible.

He stood up and did a couple of stretches. “Alright. Round 2.”

“No. You have other important things to worry about. Head to Federation City instead.”

Spina narrowed his eyes and looked around. “Who’s telling me what to do!?”

Suddenly, the entire area around the old Saiyan turned pitch black. There were no cities in plain sight; not even mountains or small rocks were present in this. Only Spina stood in the middle of darkness, until an enormous being appeared before him. His physical appearance was broken down into two parts: a head and a large body. He lacks legs and arms but has hands orbiting around him. His head consists of many small eyes around it, with a big giant eye in the middle. Lastly, his devilish smile is ever present.

“I start to wonder why you even torture yourself like this. Are you some kind of masochist?” Brutality asked.

“What the hell do you want now. Can’t you see I’m busy?”

“Busy getting your ass kicked for the nth time. Isn’t that cliché overdone now?”

“Out with it. You don’t appear to me for no reason.”

“Heh.” Brutality chuckled. “You’re not as dumb as you look. Listen, forget about the detective and the Breakers. You should set your eyes on a much bigger prize waiting for you in Federation City.”

“And what’s that?” Spina crossed his arms.

“Yowl Kassava, and of course, Yowl Bernkastel. With all the luck that rabbit gave you earlier, you’ll be able to get there without much interference.” Brutality states.

It didn’t cross his mind to simply ditch them and head straight to Federation City. However, something was holding him back to remain with the group.

“Worry about Bernkastel? You should take heed of the detective’s warning. You’re propping her up as someone that understands you. She doesn’t. She never will. None of them will ever understand. Except me, of course.”

“Tch.” Spina scolded at the thought. “You don’t know nothing—she’s different. The rest, sure, but she’s not the one Battler described.”

“Isn’t she though?” Brutality chuckled. “Because I don’t think she ever told you about Clear Mind, nor Guardian, haven’t she?”

Spina had a confused look on his face when the monster dropped the terms. “…The hell are you talking about?”

“Just as Battler said, she’s not trustworthy. I am an overseer, but I’m not the only one. There’s eight of us in total. And she has one hovering over her to play a game she’s aiming to win.”

“Game?”

“The game to control any situation she pleases—and win without fail. That’s the point of her trying to master Clear Mind. It is a powerful ability without flaws and can shape the ties of any battle she takes part in. Haven’t you noticed the changes of her hair? The Breakers’ journey to these fights is nothing more than steppingstones for her to gain experience. Nothing more. Of course, she’s not telling anyone this because it’ll ruin her chances of winning.”

Spina remained silent.

“Why do you thin she’s so adamant of making you stay the moment you decided to act for yourself for once? She wants to make sure that everything goes her way—the moment you start making a choice of your own, she will use Clear Mind to gear towards her choice. That’s why she’s even entertaining your little fighting obsessive nature. To ensure that you stay by her side like a good dog. That’s why Zenta is there. That’s why Vegetto is there, though he tries to break out of it without much good results. But you, with me, you can escape that trap.”

Spina stood there in shock that Bernkastel would do something like that, but the events after finally acting on his own decisions started to make sense in his head. When he wanted to leave for the first time, Bernkastel made it her mission to stop him from doing so. It wasn’t because she cared for him on a personal level—he was nothing but a pawn to keep around so she can complete her mastery of Clear Mind. So, she’s in absolute control in all decisions.

The old Saiyan furrowed his eyes in anger. “Tch… fooled again, huh?”

“This is why I’m here. Remember, I know everything about you. I’m trying to set you up for success.” Brutality chuckled. “And here’s something that you definitely would love to hear.”

Spina stared at Brutality as the life in his eyes became dejected.

“There’s a reason why Battler is so adamant of stopping from you getting to Kassava. Yowls are natives to this world, yes, but they do not have any concept of feelings whatsoever. You can call them nothing more than mere husks; they extract personalities based on who imprinted on them. And when a Yowl reached their final stage in life, they would explode violently and take out several large cities with them upon death. However, their violent deaths can be prevented if they are killed by someone that gave them a heart.”

Brutality let out a sinister chuckle. “When a Yowl experience an overwhelming emotion from someone, whether positive or negative, they will form a heart. And when that happens—they cannot be killed by any other thing except by the person that gave them one. Meaning, that person will give them a choice to live or die.”

The overseer hovers around Spina . “If you go there and give both Kassava and Bernkastel such an emotional reaction that they’ll form hearts, which means YOU decided their fates. YOU will decide if they live or die! I’m sure that Vegetto-Black is aware of this fact on a surface level, but if you can beat him to the punch… then it’ll be YOUR choice and no one else! And if they’re on the verge of exploding, you can prevent that and kill them on your own terms!”

Spina narrowed his eyes, the light in them becoming clear again. “Is that so? Heh... no wonder Battler is desperate to keep those two away.” He clenched his fists. “Fuck it. I’ll give them a heart, and I’ll decide if they live or die!” He powered up.

“Good to hear! Go forth, Spina.” The pitch darkness vanished and everything returned to normal. Spina smirks and flew towards the sky, heading towards Federation City.

Federation City

Kassava blushed a bit when Sinister described her purpose. She was envious that she could feel that way. A feeling that she doesn’t have—and a shame of, despite dotting on Vegetto-Black. She grabbed her chest, but she felt nothing beating there.

“Thank you for the kind words.” Kassava wanted to say more, but she heard her name called. When she arrived at the cash corner and saw Vegetto-Black pointing the blade near his neck, she knew that something was up.

The clerk misread the situation. He felt like if he even tried to gulp, his throat would be silt immediately. “I think I messed up. He’s crazy!” Such thoughts ran through the clerk’s mind.

He did not want to say more, but it was clear that Darkseid was arriving anytime soon. Mustering up the courage, he took Vegetto-Black’s bait.

“You’re a dumb one if you think anyone would love you!” He blurted out. “He just using you! Or you are using him! He called you a creature, you know! Once Darkseid sees what you’re doing, you will regret the day—"

The clerk’s head suddenly explodes, turning into a coin soon after. But it wasn’t the clerk that exploded, the entire building they were in got swept away from Kassava’s attack. Yowl Kassava pointed at him with a single finger as her facial expression looked grim. “Do not talk about Vegetto-Black like that. You know nothing of our special relationship.”

She didn’t let him finish. Just merely insulting him would have full wrath of her. “Sorry for dealing with that. Insulting you… makes me feel disgusted. Our love is true, right?” She looked around, realizing that store was practically in ruins. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to go off like that. Come, we can find another shop—”

“Ah, there you are, young one.” A deep voice interrupted Kassava. A large man standing on a levitating hoverboard appeared before the trio. It was none other than Darkseid, the person they were looking for. “Your display of powers is as grant as ever. Unfortunately, it is used for the wrong reasons.” He spoke. His tone was that of authority; it trembles the city as he spoke.

“Darkseid!” Kassava said. “That’s him. He’s the one who knows a thing or two about the lab!”

Darkseid turned his head to Vegetto-Black and Sinister Bernkastel. “Red Witch… and you must be the one who poison Kassava’s mind. I advise you leave the city and leave the young man to me. If you do, I’ll look away your transgression and spar your lives.”

Federation City Underground: Doom’s Lab

“Whoa! The stuff inside the lab is pretty crazy…” Daiman said. “I guess each lab is different… make sense that Kire wanted to explore them all.” He saw the tree with the million coins as leaves. “What is that…”

As soon he saw Jaz slipping through the barrier, there was a bit of hope in him. “This is easier than I thought. Maybe I freaked out over nothing.”

Behind them, there were loud footsteps deep further from the cave. A loud, ghastly sound of deep breaths that ringed their ears. And an explicit dangerous aura flourished across the tunnel, which made clear that killing intent is presence.

Daiman turned and fear took over him as chilled ran down his spine. “Spoke too soon.”

A red light blade glowed in the darkness, lighting up the entire cave. A man wearing dark armor had appeared before them.

"There's fear in this cave, and walking dead men." He spoke.

"That was close... Thank you," Bernkastel hugged onto Zenta's back, peering over his shoulder to watch Alex's next moves closely. Even though he'd rescued her just in time, she could still feel the cold edge of Alex's blade impressed on her neck as it left a cut through the collar. Even if she was able to move in time, there was no way it wouldn't have cut through a good portion of her neck.

Seeing Alex's eyes change again, Bernkastel watchfully eyed where the gun's barrel pointed. The bullet's too close to stop now. Closing her eyes, she tilted her head to the left until her neck muscles strained. Sinking herself back into Clear Mind, Bern rolled off Zenta onto the ground, rising at his side to reassess the situation. Alex was at the cliff edge. Battler was too far from reach. She'd run out of air by the time she'd get close enough to attack.

Killing her here is unwise, but she's not letting up until I'm dead. Even if I manage to subdue her and kill Battler, that might spell serious trouble. What to do... Bernkastel glided past Alex as she deliberated, floating in midair beyond the cliff edge. Summoning her scythe once more, she gently traced a line of white in the blackened space across Alex's leg tendons. Bern slammed the blunt edge of the scythe at the young woman's shoulders to push her onto the ground as she released held breath.

"Listen here, child of Lucifer. I have no interest in killing you," the witch curtly stated as she floated overhead with scythe in hand. "Especially not when you're fighting me in Battler's place. Strange that a man who's killed me so many times... sends you instead. What's he waiting for? I could've killed you in several ways just now-- rather cruel to knowingly put you in harms way of a dangerous witch like me. If he won't kill me with his own hands, I have no reason to fear such a coward."

"You do have a choice in the matter. Give up now and live to complete your real mission. Or throw your life away for his personal vendettas while Zenta crushes your bones. Know that if you choose wrong, the answers you seek will vanish once you return from a Coin."

Bernkastel leaned the blade's curve over Alex's neck, staring her down with a piercing gaze. "Choose."

Federation City Underground: Doom's Lab

Mooli froze in place as the tunnel lit up red, slowly looking over to see the figure cloaked in black make their way towards them. She crouched, widening her stance with arms spread to shield those standing behind her closer to Jaz and the barrier, hoping she'd be done soon for them to escape into a less crowded space.

Is he an ally of Darkseid's? Mooli thought.

"... I take it you're not out on an evening stroll looking to make some friends." she said as cold sweat rolled down her face. "Here for the lab too, huh?"

Federation City

Sinister Bernkastel was hunched in her spot, rather stunned at the extent of Kassava's power. She had seen it occur twice but seemingly cannot grasp what the ability truly is. Before she was able to respond at the notion of furthering the shopping spree, a different man's voice reverberated through her whole body. She turned as he addressed her and Vegetto-Black, looking up at him with wide eyes. Sinister locked eyes with Vegetto-Black, certain that he was fully intent on engaging Darkseid.

Despite feeling intimidated initially by his imposing demeanor, Sinister smirked, seemingly excited she can correct her earlier blunder and finish the day with a proper victory. "Heh, I don't believe we'll do anything of the sort, mister. So how much damage are we going to do to him? Just alive enough to get us access to the lab?" she asked Vegetto-Black.
