The Reality Vortex: The Black Rose

Outskirts of Federation City

The Potara fusion's fists trembled heavily at Battler's insultive remarks to the yowl version of Kassava, his eyebrows twitching. Normally, Vegetto would've snapped by now; unhindered by the notion of morality when it came to his feelings towards his former wife. Yet the only thing that kept the man from lashing out, was the subtle undertones of what it would entail. All his efforts to grow, and maintain good relations to the Breakers, Daimian, and Mooli now, would be wasted if he lashed out and created more problems.

Vegetto seethed silently to himself, yet rationality continued to slip with every word Battler spoke. The overwhelming urge to simply launch forward and punch the detective began to mount, but before he could fully boil over and unleash, Bernkastel had stepped forward. His rage towards Battler cooled, but it was soon replaced by a strong, cold hatred he felt for the witch.

He met her glance; his eyes forthcoming that out of all the anger he felt towards Battler, he did not disagree with the detective about how dangerous Bernkastel's influence was. Yet Vegetto stood silent throughout her proclamation and counter argument, until his eyes widened a bit in surprise at her final statement.

If you strike any of my comrades, I will retaliate.

Vegetto narrowed his eyes in concern, finding the statement unlike the witch in every detail he imagined of her. He paused in thought, thinking to himself at the situation in frustration.

If I strike first at these detectives...it'll just create another problem. They'll tarnish my reputation even more...and the Breakers will hate me for starting another fight again. But if they were to attack me first....and she considered me a comrade...then I wouldn't be blamed. And then...I could fight them.

Vegetto inhaled deeply through his nose, a strong sense of conviction in his decision at taking the risk. The Potara fusion considered the chances of the Breakers counting him as a comrade in this moment were slim, but Vegetto started to walk forward towards the city. He continued to stride forward, and instead, slightly shoved Battler to the side while he walked past in a disrespectful manner.

"Get out of my way."

Vegetto continued to walk forward, his back now to Battler and Alex in direct defiance to their commands. His body tensed, however, preparing in anticipation of an incoming attack from behind.

Federation City Underground

(Putting this one in a spoiler so there's less scrolling on this page lol)
Vegetto Black looked on at Kassava's enthusiasm with a soft, warm and happy expression. Like a proud husband, happy to support his wife. Yet the facade itself was sustained not by genuine care and support for her, but in mocking amusement of how pathetic and simple minded the woman was in Vegetto's eyes. The doppelganger looked down on the yowl, the mask of his face hiding his true contempt for the creature while he walked after her towards the portal.

However, Vegetto Black narrowed his eyes a bit, a sensation drawing his attention back to Sinister Bernkastel. He too, saw how easy she was to read with her expression and discontent with her role in the facade, his frustration beginning to mount. The doppelganger stopped in place when he was certain Yowl Kassava was not looking while the three headed towards the portal, turning to lean down towards Bernkastel with an annoyed whisper.

"What the hell is this? Are you so lost in your pathetic ego that you can't accept a role that's needed here? This isn't some stupid punishment, get out of your weak feelings. We are-"

Vegetto Black caught himself, a genuine slip up in his speech and correcting the final word.

"-I am just setting you up to take her down when she's done being useful."

The doppelganger didn't wait for a reply, however, seemingly more agitated at his strange word choice slip up in front of Sinister Bernkastel as he walked back towards Yowl Kassava to move through the portal to their next destination. A normally strange occurrence that could be missed, but it was a tell. How amusing, that he finally slipped up and admitted the truth to you in this momentary failure of composure and control.

Do you not get it?

He is a f̩͈ũs͠i̡̊ͅo̸͙n͎͂͢.

The combination of Vegeta and Kakarotto...Vegetto

But the soul is gone

The god inside him is dead

All that is left, is the husk. Two parts, struggling to become whole.

I am Vegetto

We are Vegetto

A team...yet he struggles in his own want for identity. Just like you.

Unity is salvation.

You are stronger together.

Victor says "Sadly I don't know much about what's going either form before they entered the vertex or their time in the vertex. But seriously detective you want to stop what you deemed a danger from entering a place form what I understand has no law? Best case for you is the danger takes on more that it can handle and is weekend as well get some other "criminals"; worst case your sill get the other "criminals". All it will cost is intel."

Victor thinks "I guess these detectives are involved with law enforcement in this part of the vertex. I gest I bumbled in joining a group that angered the law."

Outskirts of Federation City

Mooli posed a significant inquiry regarding the rationale behind the creation of an evil clone of Kassava. Is it possible that there was an underlying, potentially malicious plan involving these Yowls?

“There is no particular reason behind this Yowl’s creation,” Battler dismissed Mooli’s inquiry. “In fact, you should have this drilled in your heads from now on. The existence of Yowls served no purpose at all. They were the result of pure ego.”

Battler’s eyes grew cold, and his voice became even more apparent of how dismissive he was to the lives of a Yowl. “Far away from there, a gathering of Gods in a place called Omnipotent City is the birthplace of all Yowls. Part of my investigation, the Creator Gods have a hard time adjusting the fact that they were no longer the cream of the top. The top of the totem pole. They are just like the rest of us. To prove that this is not the case, they went to create life to showcase their godly prowess. They succeeded, but the end results completely backfire. They could only create something that they were familiar with from their home world for one. Next, despite being their creators, Yowls don’t consider them as such. In fact, they actively rebel against them and run away once they rapidly reach their prime. Unlike us who are foreigners to this world, Yowls are natural natives here. Meaning, they have Dark Energy naturally.”

Nightfall started to set, casting a shadow over the detective. “You are all aware of how dangerous Dark Energy can be, right? Even if you want to speak to this yowl, it is pointless. They are a walking death bomb. Every single case I’ve dealt with the Yowls, once they reached their end stage, their lifeforce burns in such a significant rate that they will eventually explode and outright destroy not just a single city, but entire landmass upon death. Understand? Did that get through your heads? So once again, leave as once—”

Battler was shoved to the side as Vegetto headed towards the city.

“Retribution… from your perspective, I wouldn’t blame you if that was the first thing that pop up in that twisted mind of yours.” Battler was still facing the Breakers rather than Vegetto. “Unfortunately, I already had my fill eons ago. Now, I’m just ensuring trash like you don’t pile up. Causal clean up, if you will. But that was a cute speech, though. The 1,003,203rd one said something similar before a lackey gained a confident boost.”

“Shut the fuck up.” Spina was growing tired of Battler’s speech. “I didn’t come over here to listen some history lesson. I’m here to see what this Yowl is made of, and I intended to do so. If anyone stands in my way, I’ll kill them. Even you, Detective.” Spina balled his fist. Despite his conflict with Sinister Bernkastel earlier, the way Battler was describing Yowls left a bad taste in the old Saiyan’s mouth. He couldn’t understand why, but the detective’s attitude rubbed him the wrong way. He was concerned that perhaps Bernkastel had underhanded tactics, but the way she not only defended herself, but the Breakers in general, cast away those doubts. “You talk a lot of shit anyways, and that clown just walked past you like nothing.”

“What are you talking about? Vegetto’s right next to you.” Battler pointed out.

Spina frowned at Battler’s statement. He turned his head slightly to the right; his eyes widened in both shock and confusion. Vegetto was standing right next to him, despite seeing him walk away just seconds ago. How did he appear next to him without anyone knowing? Was this a trick that Battler pulled?

Daiman rubbed his eyes, backing up until he bumped into Bara. “W-what!? Mr. Vegetto, didn’t you just go that way?!”

Battler walked towards the Breakers, the change of his aura flourishing, indicating that he was going to strike. “You won’t leave quietly, then I’ll force you out. I have time to kill. Literally.”

Spina rushed in. “You talk too damn much! Ha!” The old Saiyan fired an explosive beam at the detective, but the energy blast outright disappeared before it even hit the man. “Huh?!”

Federation City

“Hey! Hurry up you two!” Yowl Kassava shouted at them. She continues ahead and exits out of the cave, which leads in the middle of the actual Federation City. The city itself was not particularly busy, but there were still plenty of people in the streets. Some gathered around the cave created by the Yowl and were spooked when Kassava jumped out of it.

“What the hell?!” One of them said. Once they said Yowl Kassava, they immediately freaked out and alerted the others. “Shit! It’s her! Run away!”

As panic ensued, Yowl Kassava was wandering around with small little hops trying to remember Darkseid’s residence. She was completely oblivious to the people running away and clearing the streets. “Hmm, I’m sure it was this way. No, maybe this way… oh!” She rushes to a store that had dresses. “Oh! Vegetto darling! We should totally get this dress for our daughter! I think it would match her red eyes, don’t you think!?”

Bara grunted a little when Daima bumped into her.

"Oye, please be more careful!" She said to him, while Brachi and Dielec blinked at the exchanges taking place, with Brachi attempting to gauge the strength of Battler.

“Able to take out entire landmasses?” Avalon whispered to himself, remembering the fight with Eleki and how it ended with Reality Metropolis in ashes. “That one Xy’pher back in Metropolis just had a small bit of Dark Energy, that alone was enough to wipe it off the map…”

How on Earth are we going to defeat this Yowl? If it dies, then we can’t escape it… Avalon bit his lip, trying to think of a solution. The only way we can get out of that mess is we teleport out but… No, no, that won’t work if we’re too close…

While Battler spoke about Bernkastel, Zenta did not particularly show any emotion towards the mindless gibberish, but he would not sit there and allow someone to disrespect his Lady.

“I beg to differ.” Zenta said, placing a hand atop Bernkastel’s head, ruffling her hair. “You may have had a terrible experience with the Bernkastels of your world, but this one is different. At least, I think so.”

Zenta smiled, as if confident in his words.

“Even if this Bernkastel is manipulating us for her own gain, I will say she’s doing poorly at it. Besides, this Bernkastel was nice enough to give me, a complete stranger, a visor to hide my unsightly face. She could have poked at my insecurities, but she did not. That does not sound like a bad person to me. That, and her cats are very fluffy and nice to hold…”

Zenta snickered under his breath, as if a small gift from Bernkastel would change Battler’s mind. But the purpose was not to change Battler’s mind, per say, but to admit that a simple gift from Bernkastel, all those years ago, was a kindness that warmed Zenta more than any stranger did.

“I say that to say this: This Bernkastel is precious to me. Foolish or ignorant on my end, perhaps, but I will not allow you to hurt Bernkastel. You hurt her, you will answer to me, yes? Is that not what friends do?”

However, when Vegetto brushed past Battler only to appear by Spina, then for Spina’s attack to disappear entirely before touching Battler, caught everyone’s attention. Zenta tilted his head, as did Avalon.

“What the? How did he…?” Avalon blinked twice, trying to comprehend what he witnessed. “Teleportation powers?”

As the group tried to figure out Battler’s ability, Jaz gently beeped, getting Asher’s attention. Asher peeked at the phone, seeing a pixelated shocked face before Jaz spoke to Asher.

“Ashy, we need to find the lab for dad.” Jaz beeped.

“I know, but we can’t leave grandpa and the others.” Asher whispered back.

“Yes, but Battler doesn’t seem interested in you. Look, look.” Jaz nudged Asher to stare at Battler and Alex. “They seem more interested in Bernkastel, Vegetto, your grandfather, and Spina. You and me can go find the lab while the others distract Battler. Besides, I know of a secret passage that will get us inside.”

“Really? And it will take us to the lab?”

Avalon’s ear perked ever slightly at the small conversation between Asher and Jaz. Then, his eyes widened, as if a plan unfolded in his head. He quickly approached Asher and Jaz while Battler spoke with the other Breakers.

“C’mon Asher, let’s go.” Jaz urged. “The sooner we find the lab, the less we have to fight.”

“Hold on, kiddo.” Avalon whispered, gently tapping Asher’s shoulder. “Mind if I tag along? If Jaz knows the way, then she’s right about Battler and Alex being distracted. Let your grandfather and the others handle this, they’re tough as nails.”

“That does sound like a good idea.” Asher nodded, looking up at the floating phone. “What do you think, Jaz? Let’s take advantage of the group distracting Battler and Alex while you take us to the lab. Hopefully, we won’t find that Yowl thingy or Darksmile. Erm, whatever his name is.”

If we manage to get into the lab, then Kire might have a shot at making some sort of weird technology that might get us out of here… Right now, the objective is the lab. Avalon thought to himself. He glanced over his shoulder, staring at some of the other Breakers. Then, his eyes locked on Daiman and Mooli. “Maybe we can bring some extra help in case we run into trouble…? Those guys got some unique strengths to them. I’m sure they’ll love a bit of a detour...”

If Jaz is right about Battler, then he’ll only target those who are part of the Breakers group. If that’s the case, he and Alex won’t bother with small fry like me and Asher. And if Jaz knows the way, then maybe we can bypass the barrier, the Yowl, and that Darkseid character. Once Kire obtains the lab, then we should be able to get out of here no problem! Yeah, this might just work!

Victor says summoning a flying carpet "Some tells me that if some the group that can reach the lab and access it, we may have a way to resolve that threat. All part of our group is delaying this "Yowl" thing and not lethal it as the other part were to, I don't know go to the lab find out the intel we need or device we could in theory defuse the threat of a large boom."

Victor thinks "How did bumming a meal after that "shadow game" thing end up with stakes this high?"

Federation City Underground

Sinister Bernkastel grimaced at being scolded again, feeling wounded further by his words. And yet, she pitied the man for the state he was in. That's right... it'll be alright as long as we stand together. No matter how deep the maelstrom pulls you down, no matter how empty you're feeling... when you're on the verge of dissolving away at the mercy of either half wearing away at you... I'll always be here to bring you back up for air. That's how it's always been for us.

Even if you can be such scum in times like this.... I won't abandon you so easily like the traitor.

The Red Witch decided to play along with Vegetto Black's sacrilegious act of love, and do it well enough that she won't be utterly disgusted every time he puts on the facade of a loving husband. Or with herself for what she would do. Being the happy orphan to a loving couple is all there is to it. The rest will come easily and it's because of their bond she can do this much. They will unite and conquer any obstacle together. Just like they always have.

Exiting through the portal, Sinister Bernkastel took in the new sights of Federation City. She immediately side-eyed the passerby with a hateful glare; she's had enough negative encounters with civilians that it's become second-nature to look at them like roaches scuttling away from sunlight. Yowl Kassava seemed to outright ignore their reactions to her, so Sinister followed suit by catching up to the two where she stopped. At the question of a new dress, Sinister Bernkastel glanced down at what she was currently wearing. This one was stolen to replace her original dress, which had gotten worn out not long after she started to wander around. It was practically in tatters thanks to that lunatic Spina putting her through the ringer-- ripped and ground into the rubble even more after she got hit by a car. It was also damp and reeked of a fresh bloodbath. All of a sudden she felt self-conscious looking like a stray that crawled out the nearest dumpster.

"Can we? I can't go around looking like this," Sinister turned to Vegetto Black, knowing he was focused on finding Darkseid but she wanted to have a little bit of fun with this before getting in another fight at the very least. "That rabid dog tore up my dress and you know I never had parents, so I've never even had the chance to know what it's like spending time with them. Mother knows exactly which one to get me so we won't take long!" she clasped her hands together as she pleaded with him in a more sweetly-sounding tone. "Pretty please, Father?"
=====================
Outskirts of Federation City

Bernkastel's eyes narrowed, stiffening her upper lip with dwindling patience. He was clearly adamant about these Yowl things running around but oddly resistant about letting them get near one. But most of all the witch's impression of this man completely soured making light of her the way he did. Her tail's tip flicked in agitation to contrast a fairly flat expression before feeling a hand on her head, Zenta's objection catching her attention. Bern looked up at him, eyes widening in surprise the way he referred to her as a friend. "Zenta..."

The Creator Gods could only create something familiar from their home world. Mooli tuned out the rest of what Battler said as she stood with a vacant, alarmed expression. Furrowing her brow, she glanced over at Whis trying to think of a potential culprit connected to Kassava. Seeing Victor conjure the flying carpet to accompany Asher and Jaz, Mooli gently placed a hand on Daiman's shoulder. "Call me crazy, but I think we should blow this joint too," She whispered, looking quite keen on going with the others to look for the lab.

Bernkastel clenched her fists as Battler came closer. It was incredibly strange that an explosive attack like Spina's seemingly disappeared-- unspeakable if neither of them even lifted a finger. Things about what the man said started to click in the witch's mind. "More than one million of me, huh?" There was the lingering question that followed an eerie statement like that but Bernkastel wouldn't ask it. Suppressing a cold shiver, she displayed a grim expression, clearly unnerved by the way he talked to her. Rather, how he said it.
"Who-- no-- what are you?"

Outside of Federation City

Battler frowned when Zenta cast aside his warnings of the witch, purely because she gifted him something simple. “Foolish is too soft of a word to describe the absolute drivel you spewed. You know nothing of her nor what’s she capable of, but you chose to stand by her? Friend? That’s a foreign concept to Bernkastel. You’re a friend until you no longer entertain her due to her ever-increasing prone to boredom… I don’t have time to argue with halfwits any longer.”

A simple, white aura billowed around the detective as Alex readied her weapon. He smirked when Bernkastel pressed to identify himself once more and simply complied. “I held different titles back in my world. Lord, Golden Sorcerer, Endless Sorcerer. But after the mountain of broken bodies of numerous witches beneath me, I have ascended to the position as the Witch of Miracles.”

Battler’s aura electrified as the pressure builds. “But miracles are nothing more than unexplained phenomenon… that can explain with logic and natural laws. That I ascended once more—something that trumps both miracles and certainty—magic and fantasy falters as I arrived in their worlds. I am Battler, The Sorcerer of Objectivity.”

Spina forward his arms as a pillar of energy formed in between his palms. “The hell are you on about?! Rising Blast—”

Red Objective.” Battler pointed his finger towards Spina’s attack, and it shrunk down before disappearing completely.

Spina’s eyes widened before being struck in the face by Alex’s bullet. He flung back as he thrashed around against the ground. He slammed onto Brachi before stopping entirely. He held onto his face as bits of flesh peeled off, with steam sizzling from it. “Argh…”

===

It was clear that Battler and Alex was focused on Bernkastel and the others, not every single Breaker. When Mooli nudged Daiman’s shoulders, the young boy instantly agreed. The last thing he wanted to do was fight after that whole Vegetto-Black fiasco.

“Yeah, let’s go. I don’t know what’s going on, but I don’t want to get caught up in that!” Daiman whispered. His soft voice already made it hard for anyone to understand. “Pssh, Victor. M-might get us out of here as Jaz leads the way?”

Outskirts of Federation City

Vegetto blinked, now standing amongst the group again with a shocked expression and promptly glanced around. He stood still, however, his plan thwarted while Cayde looked on in concern as well; both unsure of how to deal with Battler after the strange power demonstrated.

Whis glanced to his side at Mooli as well, his own concern apparent with Battler's conclusions in his investigation clear in his eyes. The taller angel paused for a moment, gathering the sight of the others preparing to move on, but soon turned his attention once Battler revealed himself fully. He watched on with a neutral stare, his eyes briefly following the deletion of Spina's attack and watched on while the older Saiyan was struck by Alex's bullet.

Vegetto blinked, tensing his stance while Cayde moved in front of the group attempting to sneak away with a low voice.

"Better get moving before he notices you...we'll keep these two busy and catch up later..."

Whis, however, kept his scepter at his side while he spoke loudly over the billowing of energy and power.

"Detective...there is a flaw in your logic. If these yowls are natural creations of this world...how can the foreign Creator Gods be responsible for them?"

The angel did not wait for a reply.

"I have been to Omnipotent City...I used to serve an inhabitant there. And try as they might...they cannot create Dark Energy. If you have done your research properly on the matter, then you should know that these yowls exist outside of their capabilities."

Whis narrowed his eyes slightly.

"As you said, they are not the top of the totem pole. But someone is. Perhaps we can cease this childish bickering and work together to discover who that is?"

Federation City

"Coming, dear!"

Vegetto Black stomached and hid his absolute disgust once more, following after Yowl Kassava. He was careful to hide his disdain for the woman while she excitedly hopped around, but his smile faded entirely once she pleaded to get a new dress for Sinister Bernkastel. His eyes shifted, as Sinister Bernkastel soon arrived to continue the facade and plead for the "happy family" to enter the store.

Vegetto Black stared down at Sinister Bernkastel first; his neutral expression masking his true feelings. But you've been friends for so long; you know exactly what he's really feeling, don't you?

You're doing too much.

This is a waste of time.

Do you really have to get in my way?

Yet Vegetto Black soon forced his lips to rise into a small, warm smile and he glanced between the two with the same, welcoming expression.

"Of course...come! Let's go inside."

The doppelganger of a Saiyan reached out and opened the door politely to the shop, stepping to the side. He gestured for the women to enter before him; the pupils staring at Sinister Bernkastel barely holding back the impending rage mounting inside the man.

Victor says, "How and/or way miracles happen are irrelevant to our current station. As well as the fact that unless you were born or form within the vertex, you're not really a native of the vertex."

Victor says, "with all that stated I agree with Whis."
