The Reality Vortex: The Black Rose

Outskirts of Federation City

The Potara fusion's fists trembled heavily at Battler's insultive remarks to the yowl version of Kassava, his eyebrows twitching. Normally, Vegetto would've snapped by now; unhindered by the notion of morality when it came to his feelings towards his former wife. Yet the only thing that kept the man from lashing out, was the subtle undertones of what it would entail. All his efforts to grow, and maintain good relations to the Breakers, Daimian, and Mooli now, would be wasted if he lashed out and created more problems.

Vegetto seethed silently to himself, yet rationality continued to slip with every word Battler spoke. The overwhelming urge to simply launch forward and punch the detective began to mount, but before he could fully boil over and unleash, Bernkastel had stepped forward. His rage towards Battler cooled, but it was soon replaced by a strong, cold hatred he felt for the witch.

He met her glance; his eyes forthcoming that out of all the anger he felt towards Battler, he did not disagree with the detective about how dangerous Bernkastel's influence was. Yet Vegetto stood silent throughout her proclamation and counter argument, until his eyes widened a bit in surprise at her final statement.

If you strike any of my comrades, I will retaliate.

Vegetto narrowed his eyes in concern, finding the statement unlike the witch in every detail he imagined of her. He paused in thought, thinking to himself at the situation in frustration.

If I strike first at these detectives...it'll just create another problem. They'll tarnish my reputation even more...and the Breakers will hate me for starting another fight again. But if they were to attack me first....and she considered me a comrade...then I wouldn't be blamed. And then...I could fight them.

Vegetto inhaled deeply through his nose, a strong sense of conviction in his decision at taking the risk. The Potara fusion considered the chances of the Breakers counting him as a comrade in this moment were slim, but Vegetto started to walk forward towards the city. He continued to stride forward, and instead, slightly shoved Battler to the side while he walked past in a disrespectful manner.

"Get out of my way."

Vegetto continued to walk forward, his back now to Battler and Alex in direct defiance to their commands. His body tensed, however, preparing in anticipation of an incoming attack from behind.

Federation City Underground

Vegetto Black looked on at Kassava's enthusiasm with a soft, warm and happy expression. Like a proud husband, happy to support his wife. Yet the facade itself was sustained not by genuine care and support for her, but in mocking amusement of how pathetic and simple minded the woman was in Vegetto's eyes. The doppelganger looked down on the yowl, the mask of his face hiding his true contempt for the creature while he walked after her towards the portal.

However, Vegetto Black narrowed his eyes a bit, a sensation drawing his attention back to Sinister Bernkastel. He too, saw how easy she was to read with her expression and discontent with her role in the facade, his frustration beginning to mount. The doppelganger stopped in place when he was certain Yowl Kassava was not looking while the three headed towards the portal, turning to lean down towards Bernkastel with an annoyed whisper.

"What the hell is this? Are you so lost in your pathetic ego that you can't accept a role that's needed here? This isn't some stupid punishment, get out of your weak feelings. We are-"

Vegetto Black caught himself, a genuine slip up in his speech and correcting the final word.

"-I am just setting you up to take her down when she's done being useful."

The doppelganger didn't wait for a reply, however, seemingly more agitated at his strange word choice slip up in front of Sinister Bernkastel as he walked back towards Yowl Kassava to move through the portal to their next destination. A normally strange occurrence that could be missed, but it was a tell. How amusing, that he finally slipped up and admitted the truth to you in this momentary failure of composure and control.

Victor says "Sadly I don't know much about what's going either form before they entered the vertex or their time in the vertex. But seriously detective you want to stop what you deemed a danger from entering a place form what I understand has no law? Best case for you is the danger takes on more that it can handle and is weekend as well get some other "criminals"; worst case your sill get the other "criminals". All it will cost is intel."

Victor thinks "I guess these detectives are involved with law enforcement in this part of the vertex. I gest I bumbled in joining a group that angered the law."

Outskirts of Federation City

Mooli posed a significant inquiry regarding the rationale behind the creation of an evil clone of Kassava. Is it possible that there was an underlying, potentially malicious plan involving these Yowls?

“There is no particular reason behind this Yowl’s creation,” Battler dismissed Mooli’s inquiry. “In fact, you should have this drilled in your heads from now on. The existence of Yowls served no purpose at all. They were the result of pure ego.”

Battler’s eyes grew cold, and his voice became even more apparent of how dismissive he was to the lives of a Yowl. “Far away from there, a gathering of Gods in a place called Omnipotent is the birthplace of all Yowls. Part of my investigation, the Creator Gods have a hard time adjusting the fact that they were no longer the cream of the top. The top of the totem pole. They are just like the rest of us. To prove that this is not the case, they went to create life to showcase their godly prowess. They succeeded, but the end results completely backfire. They could only create something that they were familiar with from their home world for one. Next, despite being their creators, Yowls don’t consider them as such. In fact, they actively rebel against them and run away once they rapidly reach their prime. Unlike us who are foreigners to this world, Yowls are natural natives here. Meaning, they have Dark Energy naturally.”

Nightfall started to set, casting a shadow over the detective. “You are all aware of how dangerous Dark Energy can be, right? Even if you want to speak to this yowl, it is pointless. They are a walking death bomb. Every single case I’ve dealt with the Yowls, once they reached their end stage, their lifeforce burns in such a significant rate that they will eventually explode and outright destroy not just a single city, but entire landmass upon death. Understand? Did that get through your heads? So once again, leave as once—”

Battler was shoved to the side as Vegetto headed towards the city.

“Retribution… from your perspective, I wouldn’t blame you if that was the first thing that pop up in that twisted mind of yours.” Battler was still facing the Breakers rather than Vegetto. “Unfortunately, I already had my fill eons ago. Now, I’m just ensuring trash like you don’t pile up. Causal clean up, if you will. But that was a cute speech, though. The 1,003,203rd one said something similar before a lackey gained a confident boost.”

“Shut the fuck up.” Spina was growing tired of Battler’s speech. “I didn’t come over here to listen some history lesson. I’m here to see what this Yowl is made of, and I intended to do so. If anyone stands in my way, I’ll kill them. Even you, Detective.” Spina balled his fist. Despite his conflict with Sinister Bernkastel earlier, the way Battler was describing Yowls left a bad taste in the old Saiyan’s mouth. He couldn’t understand why, but the detective’s attitude rubbed him the wrong way. He was concerned that perhaps Bernkastel had underhanded tactics, but the way she not only defended herself, but the Breakers in general, cast away those doubts. “You talk a lot of shit anyways, and that clown just walked past you like nothing.”

“What are you talking about? Vegetto’s right next to you.” Battler pointed out.

Spina frowned at Battler’s statement. He turned his head slightly to the right; his eyes widened in both shock and confusion. Vegetto was standing right next to him, despite seeing him walk away just seconds ago. How did he appear next to him without anyone knowing? Was this a trick that Battler pulled?

Daiman rubbed his eyes, backing up until he bumped into Bara. “W-what!? Mr. Vegetto, didn’t you just go that way?!”

Battler walked towards the Breakers, the change of his aura flourishing, indicating that he was going to strike. “You won’t leave quietly, then I’ll force you out. I have time to kill. Literally.”

Spina rushed in. “You talk too damn much! Ha!” The old Saiyan fired an explosive beam at the detective, but the energy blast outright disappeared before it even hit the man. “Huh?!”

Federation City

“Hey! Hurry up you two!” Yowl Kassava shouted at them. She continues ahead and exits out of the cave, which leads in the middle of the actual Federation City. The city itself was not particularly busy, but there were still plenty of people in the streets. Some gathered around the cave created by the Yowl and were spooked when Kassava jumped out of it.

“What the hell?!” One of them said. Once they said Yowl Kassava, they immediately freaked out and alerted the others. “Shit! It’s her! Run away!”

As panic ensued, Yowl Kassava was wandering around with small little hops trying to remember Darkseid’s residence. She was completely oblivious to the people running away and clearing the streets. “Hmm, I’m sure it was this way. No, maybe this way… oh!” She rushes to a store that had dresses. “Oh! Vegetto darling! We should totally get this dress for our daughter! I think it would match her red eyes, don’t you think!?”

Bara grunted a little when Daima bumped into her.

"Oye, please be more careful!" She said to him, while Brachi and Dielec blinked at the exchanges taking place, with Brachi attempting to gauge the strength of Battler.

“Able to take out entire landmasses?” Avalon whispered to himself, remembering the fight with Eleki and how it ended with Reality Metropolis in ashes. “That one Xy’pher back in Metropolis just had a small bit of Dark Energy, that alone was enough to wipe it off the map…”

How on Earth are we going to defeat this Yowl? If it dies, then we can’t escape it… Avalon bit his lip, trying to think of a solution. The only way we can get out of that mess is we teleport out but… No, no, that won’t work if we’re too close…

While Battler spoke about Bernkastel, Zenta did not particularly show any emotion towards the mindless gibberish, but he would not sit there and allow someone to disrespect his Lady.

“I beg to differ.” Zenta said, placing a hand atop Bernkastel’s head, ruffling her hair. “You may have had a terrible experience with the Bernkastels of your world, but this one is different. At least, I think so.”

Zenta smiled, as if confident in his words.

“Even if this Bernkastel is manipulating us for her own gain, I will say she’s doing poorly at it. Besides, this Bernkastel was nice enough to give me, a complete stranger, a visor to hide my unsightly face. She could have poked at my insecurities, but she did not. That does not sound like a bad person to me. That, and her cats are very fluffy and nice to hold…”

Zenta snickered under his breath, as if a small gift from Bernkastel would change Battler’s mind. But the purpose was not to change Battler’s mind, per say, but to admit that a simple gift from Bernkastel, all those years ago, was a kindness that warmed Zenta more than any stranger did.

“I say that to say this: This Bernkastel is precious to me. Foolish or ignorant on my end, perhaps, but I will not allow you to hurt Bernkastel. You hurt her, you will answer to me, yes? Is that not what friends do?”

However, when Vegetto brushed past Battler only to appear by Spina, then for Spina’s attack to disappear entirely before touching Battler, caught everyone’s attention. Zenta tilted his head, as did Avalon.

“What the? How did he…?” Avalon blinked twice, trying to comprehend what he witnessed. “Teleportation powers?”

As the group tried to figure out Battler’s ability, Jaz gently beeped, getting Asher’s attention. Asher peeked at the phone, seeing a pixelated shocked face before Jaz spoke to Asher.

“Ashy, we need to find the lab for dad.” Jaz beeped.

“I know, but we can’t leave grandpa and the others.” Asher whispered back.

“Yes, but Battler doesn’t seem interested in you. Look, look.” Jaz nudged Asher to stare at Battler and Alex. “They seem more interested in Bernkastel, Vegetto, your grandfather, and Spina. You and me can go find the lab while the others distract Battler. Besides, I know of a secret passage that will get us inside.”

“Really? And it will take us to the lab?”

Avalon’s ear perked ever slightly at the small conversation between Asher and Jaz. Then, his eyes widened, as if a plan unfolded in his head. He quickly approached Asher and Jaz while Battler spoke with the other Breakers.

“C’mon Asher, let’s go.” Jaz urged. “The sooner we find the lab, the less we have to fight.”

“Hold on, kiddo.” Avalon whispered, gently tapping Asher’s shoulder. “Mind if I tag along? If Jaz knows the way, then she’s right about Battler and Alex being distracted. Let your grandfather and the others handle this, they’re tough as nails.”

“That does sound like a good idea.” Asher nodded, looking up at the floating phone. “What do you think, Jaz? Let’s take advantage of the group distracting Battler and Alex while you take us to the lab. Hopefully, we won’t find that Yowl thingy or Darksmile. Erm, whatever his name is.”

If we manage to get into the lab, then Kire might have a shot at making some sort of weird technology that might get us out of here… Right now, the objective is the lab. Avalon thought to himself. He glanced over his shoulder, staring at some of the other Breakers. Then, his eyes locked on Daiman and Mooli. “Maybe we can bring some extra help in case we run into trouble…? Those guys got some unique strengths to them. I’m sure they’ll love a bit of a detour...”

If Jaz is right about Battler, then he’ll only target those who are part of the Breakers group. If that’s the case, he and Alex won’t bother with small fry like me and Asher. And if Jaz knows the way, then maybe we can bypass the barrier, the Yowl, and that Darkseid character. Once Kire obtains the lab, then we should be able to get out of here no problem! Yeah, this might just work!
