Roger throws his spoon over in Jericho's cell in a pitiful attempt to get him to stop his incessant snoring. "Great Barrier Reef!..."

"He'll keep us up all night at this rate..." Marina muttered.
========

"Whoa, you sayin he works with the Dragon Eye Guild?" Zora narrowed her eyes briefly in surprise. "Maybe you can get him to let us in for free. Or we can have him "help" us steal the keys to those cells." She suggests.

========

"What is it now?" Came a bored tone of voice from the desk. "Name and business being in this office."

"Wallace Red, Dragon's Eye Swordsman. Reporting in on an incident of large-scale theft at the docks today." Wallace said, bowing with one arm folded across his abdomen.

"Ah, I heard about that from Miss Leigh earlier." Replied Florence. "Roger was among them, wasn't he?" Her tone was flat but had a hint of disdain in it.

"Yes, he's alive. We also hooked a couple of others, and a mermaid not long from that event."

"A mermaid? Hmph, I'm surprised a sailor hasn't tried to seize it. Status?"

"Alive, but it's a pain to keep those things hydrated."

"Very well. Mermaids certainly are famed for their tails among other things. I'll suppose we can auction it off, or maybe we can keep it alive and tear off all the scales at once and wait for them all to grow back." Florence traced her finger along the carving of a mermaid's tail in the hard wood of the mahogany desk. "It would be preposterous to sell it off to some low-class civilian, and it would be a curse to cull it for its tail meat. What a luxury, Mermaid tail flame cooked and served with a side rice pilaf and lemon sauce. Sounds delightful, wouldn't it?"

"Agreed." Wallace replied absently.

"Seems we caught two prizes in one day. But with Roger, I don't think we could kill him right away, knowing his little history with the oceans."

"Don't worry, I'm a man of my word, Marina." John sighed. "I'm sorry I sound really fishy-- errm, no pun intended."

John's cheeks turned red from the embarrassment.

Zytaveon chimed in at John's poor choice of words. He mocked the poor man, as usual.

"Nice words, Romeo. Why don't you call her Fish Sticks or Calamari?" Zyon chuckled. "Man you're hopeless! I give you props for trying around women."

"I can always have you at the top of the execution list." John grumbled back to Zyon. "So keep it up.."

"Eehehe.. N-No thanks big boy. I think I rather live a bit longer." Zyon chuckled nervously.

Jericho woke up, and recited his daily conversation with himself

"Hm, I suppose we can auction off the mermaid off to the richer townspeople. Not without taking a couple of her scales off first to make some extra money." Florence stated. "Roger.. I will decide whether to 'recruit' him as a permanent prisoner or have his head in a basket by the morning. I have to play my cards right. Not every pirate is better off dead." She smirked.

"Very well, then, that's the end of my report."

"Good. You are dismissed."
=========

"Speak for yourself, lad! I might actually end up in the line for a hanging." Roger laughed. "Never have I been so unlucky as to have been holed up in a prison ran by a woman who wants my head most of all. She won't let me slip out of here. My cell ain't got even a window."

"So you know who's running this rotten place?" Marina scooted towards Roger's cell as much as she were allowed.

"You could say that."

In a few moments, the sun would have fully set, and the night would begin.

========

"I'm small enough to sneak in, but I'll be cut up real good if they catch me. So maybe you can distract him while I work to nab the keys?" Zora proposed. "We ought to act quickly, since we can't be running around with a bunch of fugitives once they're broken out. Have to find a boat and quickly once we do."

Jericho, dis-tasteful of the dark, summoned a small floating light in his cell

"Anyone else want one?"

"Well, we cannot say anything for sure, Pirate." John sighed. "I just hope you dirty pirates learn from all your wrong doings in your time here. In the meanwhile, you all should catch some rest and let me know if you need something."

"I would like the keys to this cell." Zyon chuckled. "And Marina."

"Ugh, why must you test my good nature?"

=====

As night set, John was sitting on his chair and sleeping on top of the desk he wrote his notes on. He had several papers on his desk, all of which he filled out with information regarding the prisoners. He was fast asleep but he made sure to leave a cup near the cells of the inmates to alert him in case anything happened.

Not long after night fell, Marina had been led out of the room by some guards, and came back with her left arm fully bandaged with gauze and red, puffy eyes.

She was not able to sleep right after that, as she was too uncomfortable in her cell to do so. She was used to sleeping in beds of kelp or just laying in a mound of sand underwater. Not a stone cold floor or a strange contraption they called a bed. Especially when said bed was stiff as arguably the floor itself. Marina cried soundlessly, of which she was obscured since she chose to leave her cell dark without a light.

Roger was only half-awake, kept up by thoughts of possible escape. But he had none this time.

Zora went around the small prison house, diving in piles full of grass and hay stacked outside to hide from any guards that happened to be on patrol.

If I were a snooty pirate-catcher, where would I keep them all locked up?... she thought. One of the guards had to have at least one set of keys on them, so she'd have to bide her time when they weren't holding their lanterns out so brightly. She had no knife, but she still had her belt to use to her advantage.
