The next post will detail how to obtain FIVE ALL-PROOF VEHICLES from the mission 'Photo Opportunity', but before I do this, I want to clarify a few things first.
How does the 'OM0 Method' work?
- After doing research myself into how to obtain them, it has been said that it works best only on the PC! Doing it on the consoles will crash the game and potentially corrupt the save game it's used on. As I do not own any consoles myself, I cannot confirm the exact corruption, but I'm putting the warning out nonetheless.
- The method used is the so-called 'OM0 method'. This method exploits the 'mission flag' that the game utilizes: If you're NOT on a mission, your in-game cellphone doesn't ring or you're not on a in-game phonecall, the flag is set to 'On Mission 0'. If this flag is set to 'On Mission 1', then it means that a mission is in progress, the cell phone rings or you're on a phone call, thus blocking you from e.g. going through the save marker to save the game. This is a big deal, since if one would do a mission with the flag set to 0, it allows the player to do a little more than what the game designers intended, making it ideal for speedrunners for example.
- The following spots are the most common places where speedrunners set up an 'On Mission 0 Phone Call':
- Trucking (A side mission accessed by the RS Haul facility located in Flint County)
- Blood Bowl (The San Fierro Stadium Mission)
- Bike School (Located in Las Venturas south of the Stadium there)
How does the 'OM0 Method' work?
- While walking into a mission marker, the player would want a phone call to come in right when the game wants to start the mission. This will confuse the game and knows it's time for the phone cal, but the player has just started the mission. The game does its best to work out this confusion by letting a phone call through after the mission has begun. Thus the player went from 'On mission 0' to starting a mission and having a phone call come in at the exact same time, so the game sees the mission first and sets the player 'on mission 1'. Due to the confusion, the game allows the phone cal to still come through, thus the mission flag gets reverted back to 'on mission 0' after the phone stop ringing while the player is still on the mission.
- When the player gets close to ending the mission, they will hold the phone call, so that way they go back to 'on mission 1' and end the mission. They keep doing this until the time comes to do a 'dupe' or 'instant pass'. This isn't easy as it sounds however.
