At Some Point in the Future, I'm Abandoning Fandom and TVTropes

I cannot understand how to navigate the DB Wiki. Even moreso ever since they began to revamp the Broly page and replace the old info with the new stuff. Last I checked, their redirect link didn't take me to the 'old' page. Can you even wiki, bro!!! :lmao:

That another issue that annoys the shit out of me. There are pages where they have either irrelevant information, or content that just too “narrowed” for the sake of page-making. Like creating a whole ass page for the specific purpose of Future Goku—who only appear for a brief second to show that he died from the heart disease.

Sure, some information is “okay”, but it’s incredible jarring to have a multitude of pages for specific things that can easily be integrated in the main Goku page.

Dragon Ball English Dub is an interesting and complex case in the United States. Prior to the Funimation dub, it had several English dubs before it that was meant with success (especially Ocean Dub, which when Funimation couldn’t afford to pay Ocean Actors one DBZ finally hit CN, they were meant with harsh criticisms for voice cast change and the change of the OST differs from that from Saban). There isn’t too much in-depth of how the complicated of Dragon Ball English dub throughout the years expressed in the wikia. And considering the amount of misinformation, misleading content, and outright bias over content without much citation or the sort being rampant on wikia by the users, the US fanbase is still stuck on playing catch up with the rest of the world.

Let’s hope the Kanzenshuu’s Wikia will be the jumpstart to bring them up to speed of things.

Thee one size fits all solutions aren't really great most of the time. I remember I used to use something else for Warframe info but can't remember it now. A fan made and maintained site is always better than fandom, although fandom can be useful in games with a smaller following. Browsing the web with ads disabled specifically, or javascript generally is advised when possible, I think iOS is more limited in that though. On PC use NoScript in addition to uBlock Origin, they are a very powerful combination. But NoScript is a bit more involved in terms of usage while uBlock works on its own.

My experience with wikis are very hit-or-miss for really any fandom including videogames. It doesn't help that there are multiple "wiki" type sites and multiple may exist for 1 franchise and you have to cross-check between them to see what's missing on one or the other. Bloodborne is a game that has a lot of flavor text and people still discuss new findings to this day. But it has the most abysmal encyclopedias. Fextralife is THE worst, and it has a fandomwiki along with a wikia/wikidot. Confusing if you aren't aware that these are not synonymous. Plus these rarely are strictly curated like Wikipedias are, anyone can edit them if no one is looking (For example, the german death note wiki lists L's race as "semi-shinigami" when such a concept literally doesn't exist. And nobody noticed it until someone pointed it out on tumblr). Reddit wikis for fandoms also are a gamble, they either don't have one or it's never updated after launch year. Some fandom wikis are also edited like the writer didn't know they weren't using a Fanon wiki where their misinformation can be validated as harmless fanon. But I chalk it up to being dependent of the average age group of users on said wiki.

Inevitably, I find it less painful to just replay/revisit the media myself from start to finish and avoid the trouble of cross examining the multiple wikis out there altogether (not always). Unless it concerns a walkthrough, which are rarely in short supply. But citations on pages need to be less of a suggestion and more of a requirement.
