Pokémon Anime [2019]

As announced last week and leaked earlier this week, the world exclusive announcement alongside the anime is the announcement of the announcement of the next series of the anime, due to be revealed on September 29th, four weeks today. This announcement came with a small teaser clip which shows a clip featuring artwork of each region's starters, from Kanto Bulbasaur, Charmander & Squirtle up to Galar Region with Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble. The press materials also state title of the new anime series is to just be "Pocket Monsters", the same as when the anime started in 1997. The anime is to be set not just in Galar, but in all regions featured so far and feature Pokémon from each of the regions.

It has been around 20+ episodes since the newest Pokémon anime had aired before it was placed on hiatus (due to COVID pandemic). We won’t know when the anime will continue, but hopefully, judging by the number of upcoming episodes and such, they probably have a lot of episodes stock up before they resume productions.

The English version of the anime is called Pokémon Journeys, and it will air the first 13 episodes on June 12, 2020 on Netflix (no longer on Disney XD) for those in the United States. If you haven’t caught the series, this is a good time.

Based on what I think (I’ll discuss Twilight Wings some other time), I think the anime definitely grown in plenty of ways. Introduce new characters, continue the foundation of Ash since the XY arc—without the static that was plaguing him in that series, but continue his characterization in Sun and Moon. And I’m liking that they are taking the time to build Ash’s relationship with his Pokémon, especially when it time to capture them (Dragonite, Gengar and Rilou).

This is a straight contrast to that of Go, who was practically catching Pokémon left and right, and have no desire nor impulse to connect with them beyond superficial means. This is what caught a conflict between Scorbunny, now Rabbifoot, when Go refused to see Scorbunny’s concerns and issues from its point of view and dismissed his problems. I’m liking that Go is practically an deconstruction (in my eyes), of what people had been complaining about Ash for years: catching Pokémon under the sun is straight up boring, and serves connection for the audience to feel the bond between its trainer and Pokémon, if thy go on a catching streak.

This sets Ash apart from Go. He listen to their Pokémon needs and what, and more concern about their feelings. While Go is simply interested in catching all of them and that’s it. Fans often complained that Ash isn’t a good trainer because he isn’t catching Pokémon left and right (and complained that he released them too much despite releasing less than a dozen, and of course, the context). Yet, so far, I’ve seen complaints hurl at Go for doing this because its “boring”.

I’m mad hype for the Ash vs Korrina episode and see how both of them grown in their power. :wagh:
