The 4K-capable PlayStation 4, which has been the subject of rumors and leaks for quite some time now, has been officially confirmed by Sony. The confirmation came from the president and group CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Andrew House.

"It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4," House said. "We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle." He further added that "all games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4."

House also confirmed the device's current code-name 'Neo', but made it clear that the gaming console won't be unveiled at the upcoming E3 2016 gaming expo, which is scheduled for June 14 - June 16. As for price, he just said that the tag will be over $350.

What do you guys think about this? Is this really a need to have such a update on the console?

No real reason to get it. Unless they pull some bull and force us to upgrade.

There are three reasons why anyone would want to upgrade to a 4.5 (or Xbox Scorpio, for that matter):

1. You own a 4K TV and want to play at its native resolution. Just remember that 4K is, more or less, 4 1080P displays in one, of which not even every PS4 game runs at 1080.
2. You want the upcoming Playstation VR, which will DEFINITELY require a 4.5.
3. You want an improved framerste/better quality on games you play now.

This new console more or less is made for enthusiasts and is a bridge into the ninth generation consoles. Sony isn't gonna force anybody to upgrade unless, as I said, you want PSVR, which is more a "the base PS4 can't run this, so we need more powah" thing.

Good cuz for my graduation gift my mom got me the limited Nathan drake "Sic Parvis Magna" edition. To upgrade after she got me that would seem douchey. Plus 4k tv's cost to dang much.
